Healthy Dog Food
This weeks Wellness Wednesday has gone to the dogs!
Are you and your four legged friend tired of the same old same dog food? Stubborn or picky eaters? Not to worry! This quick and easy recipe is not only healthy, but humans can eat it too! After the first bite it's sure to have you and your pup begging for more!
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups brown rice
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 pounds ground turkey
3 cups chopped baby spinach
2 shredded carrots
1 shredded zucchini
1/2 cup peas
Directions:
In a large saucepan of 3 cups water, cook rice according to package instructions; set aside. Next, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add ground turkey and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the turkey as it cooks. Following that, mix spinach, carrots, zucchini, peas and brown rice until the spinach has wilted and the mixture is heated through, about 3-5 minutes. Lastly, let your master piece cool. You can put it in the fridge, freezer, or serve pronto. I'm sure by now your furry friends have smelled the master piece you've created and are already at your feet. Give them a pat and pull up a chair. To top it off, I like to add a mix of European spices to my human portion. Enjoy!
P.S. - It is very important to note that our furry friends have different nutritional requirements than humans and must be proportional to their body size, such as; high-quality protein (meat, seafood, dairy or eggs), fat (meat or oil, carbohydrates (grains or vegetables), calcium (dairy), and essential fatty acids (egg yolks or oatmeal). This recipe has a balance of 50% protein, 25% veggies and 25% grains.
